Dorothy Hansen

Dorothy Hansen, 84 of What Cheer died Friday, June 15, 2012. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. No visitation is planned. Interment will be held privately at the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorial contributions may be made to P.E.O. Chapter Y.

Dorothy Eloise Hansen was born September 19, 1927 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the daughter of Homer and Vera Grudgings Darland. She was a 1945 graduate of What Cheer High School and later attended Iowa Wesleyan College. Dorothy married Richard Leslie Moode in 1947. To this union five children were born. She was later united in marriage to Lyle Hansen. Dorothy relocated to California in 1979 where she lived until 2012. Over the years she was active in church choirs as well as a member of the Sweet Atelines. While living in California Dorothy was awarded the Miss San Diego title. Just recently she received her fifty year membership in P.E.O. Dorothy was very artistic and she enjoyed painting, poetry, dancing and theater. Her attitude for life was she always saw the best in everyone. Dorothy encouraged her children to try new things, be positive and never give up.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Richard Moode and Lyle Hansen; a son Christopher Moode; a sister Irene Darland and two brothers: Wayne and Leo Darland.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter Donna (Terry) Bair of Keswick; three sons: Richard Moode, Tim (Mary) Moode and John Moode, all of What Cheer. She also leaves behind a sister Ruth Darland of Fallbrook, CA. and a sister in law Jenny (Leo) Sarland of Indianola, IA. Dorothy’s life was also blessed by her fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
