Lester Williams, 90 of Gibson went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 23, 2012 at his home in Gibson. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Presbyterian Church in Gibson. Interment will be held in Indianapolis Cemetery west of What Cheer. Visitation will be held from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Gibson Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gibson Presbyterian Church or the Mahaska/Keokuk County Hospice.
Lester Carmen Williams, son of Delmar D. Williams and Bertha V. (Lester-Williams) Beaman was born on June 22, 1922 near Gibson, Iowa. He graduated from Gibson High School in 1940. Lester enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Fort Des Moines specializing in air plane mechanics and flight training. He graduated as a Commissioned Officer, was inducted into the United States Army and was stationed in Texas, Florida and California as a B-17 Bomber Pilot. Lester was united in marriage to Norma Jeanne Peters on October 14, 1945 at Montebello, CA. After his honorable discharge, they moved back to the family farm near Gibson where he farmed. In 1955 Lester sold the farm and bought into the Gibson Oil Co. in Gibson. Lester was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church, a member of the James Murphy American Legion Post #319 for 66 years and a member of the Shriners.
His memory is honored by his three children, Judi (Michael Younghans) Williams of Thornburg, Gloria (Greg) Lincoln of Grinnell and Larry (Diane) Williams of Gibson; ten grandchildren, David Younghans, Shelley Cline, Mary Jacobsen, Jennifer Elrod, Stacia Foster, Dan Lincoln, Joanna Stanfill, Shane Williams, Sheila Jones, Shawn Williams and 26 great grandchildren.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma Jeanne, an infant sister, Barbara Jean and a brother, Larry Lee Williams.
